Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease your donut pan and set it aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine cake flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until fully blended and set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, sour cream, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well incorporated.
  4. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Fill each cavity of your greased donut pan about halfway full with the batter using a piping bag.
Baking
  1. Bake the donuts in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until puffed and a skewer comes out clean.
  2. Remove the baked donuts from the oven, carefully loosen the edges, and invert onto a wire rack to cool.
Glazing
  1. In a medium bowl, combine powdered sugar and 4 tablespoons of milk or water. Whisk until smooth.
  2. Dunk each donut into the glaze, allowing excess to drip off, and let them set on a wire rack.

Notes

For extra flair, sprinkle chocolate shavings or colorful sprinkles on top of the glaze. Store leftover donuts in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freeze for up to a month.
