Method
Preparation
- In a large pan, begin by browning 1 lb of ground beef along with one diced onion over medium-high heat until the beef is mostly browned and the onion is tender.
- Once the beef is browned, carefully drain the excess fat from the pan.
- Add 8 oz of diced cremini mushrooms to the pan and let them cook down, stirring occasionally.
Sauce Making
- Pour in ½ cup of milk or heavy cream, followed by the 8 oz cream cheese, and then add 1 cup of water.
- Stir everything together and let it cook down until the sauce thickens, stirring occasionally.
- Remove the pan from heat and season with salt and cracked pepper to taste.
Combining
- Pour the beef and mushroom mixture over 4 cups of cooked pasta or egg noodles and mix thoroughly.
- Garnish with chopped green onions or cilantro and a sprinkle of grated parmesan.
- Serve immediately to enjoy the dish at its best.
Notes
For extra flavor, add dried herbs like thyme or parsley while cooking the mushrooms. For a lighter version, substitute cream cheese with Greek yogurt or low-fat cream cheese.
