  • 1 Large Egg Binds the ricotta mixture.
  • 1/4 cup Parsley, minced Fresh garnish.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large preheated pan, pour in the olive oil, then add the chopped onion. Sauté until softened and beginning to brown, stirring in the minced garlic for about 30 seconds.
  2. Add the Italian sausage and ground beef to the pan, breaking apart any large chunks with a spatula. Brown the meat thoroughly.
  3. While the meat cooks, bring a large pot of salted water to a gentle boil. Add the ziti noodles and cook until al dente, then drain and set aside.
Cooking
  1. As the meat browns, sprinkle in the dry seasonings: Italian seasoning, half of the salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir in the crushed tomatoes and marinara sauce, allowing them to simmer.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, blend together the ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, egg, and Italian seasoning until well combined.
  3. In another large bowl, fold the cooked ziti into half of the meat sauce, then gently incorporate the ricotta mixture.
Assembling and Baking
  1. Divide the pasta mixture into three 8x8-inch pans, topping with the remaining meat sauce and mozzarella cheese.
  2. For immediate baking, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake until golden, about 30 minutes.
  3. For freezing, place on a baking sheet until frozen, then wrap each pan with plastic wrap and aluminum foil.
Serving
  1. Let it rest for about 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For variations, consider using ground turkey for a lighter meal, or add sautéed vegetables like spinach or bell peppers.
