Ingredients

Donut Batter
  • 2 cups white whole wheat flour, or a mix of half all-purpose and half whole wheat, or all-purpose
  • 1 cup granulated sugar adds just the right amount of sweetness
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder for rich chocolatey flavor
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder to give donuts a perfect rise
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda works alongside the baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt enhances all flavors
  • 2 large eggs, beaten and at room temperature for better blending
  • 3/4 cup milk, also at room temperature for perfect mixing
  • 1/4 cup Greek yogurt provides a creamy texture
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract for aromatic warmth
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted for indulgent richness
Glaze
  • 1 and 3/4 cups confectioners’ sugar for a sweet finish
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream to make the glaze luscious
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract to carry through the flavor
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice adds a zesty note to balance sweetness

Method

Preparing the Donut Holes
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease a 24-count mini muffin pan with nonstick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together the white whole wheat flour, granulated sugar, and unsweetened cocoa powder.
  3. Mix in the baking powder, baking soda, and salt, then set this bowl aside.
Mixing the Wet Ingredients
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the beaten eggs, milk, Greek yogurt, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Slowly incorporate the melted butter, whisking until well combined.
  3. Carefully fold the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring just enough to eliminate any flour pockets.
Baking the Donuts
  1. Spoon the batter into your prepared mini muffin tins, filling each about 3/4 full.
  2. Bake for approximately 10 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  3. Allow the donut holes to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack for another 5 minutes before glazing.
Creating the Glaze
  1. In a medium bowl, sift the confectioners’ sugar to remove lumps.
  2. Mix in the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and lemon juice until achieving a smooth consistency.
Glazing the Donut Holes
  1. Once the donut holes are slightly warm, dip each donut hole into the glaze, allowing excess to drip off.
  2. For a thicker coating, repeat the dunking process two to three times.
Serving Your Creation
  1. These Glazed Chocolate Donut Holes are best enjoyed fresh on the same day they are made.
  2. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.

Notes

Ensure your ingredients are at room temperature for a lighter texture. Consider rolling the glazed donut holes in sprinkles or chopped nuts for extra fun!
