  • ¼ teaspoon ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
  • ¼ teaspoon ¼ teaspoon kosher or sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon vanilla Enhances sweetness and aroma.

Method

Preparation

Cooking
  1. Cover the slow cooker and set to high for 3 to 4 hours or low for 6 to 8 hours. Stir once halfway through.
  2. Once apples are tender, use an immersion blender to blend the mixture until reaching desired consistency.
  3. Return the pureed mixture to the slow cooker and cook uncovered on high, stirring occasionally, until desired thickness is achieved, about 2 hours.
Finishing
  1. Taste and adjust sweetness with additional brown sugar or maple syrup if needed.
  2. Spoon the apple butter into jars. Allow to cool before refrigerating.

Notes

Mixing different apple varieties will enhance flavor. Blend carefully to avoid splatters if not using an immersion blender. Feel free to add other spices for a unique touch.
