Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 can refrigerated cinnamon rolls (save the icing) Use your favorite brand.
  • 21 oz can of apple pie filling Can substitute with homemade filling if preferred.
  • 2 TBS butter, melted For drizzling over cinnamon roll pieces.
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon For sprinkling over the mixture.
  • 3 TBS soft light brown sugar Split into two tablespoons for layering and one for the topping.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C or gas mark 4). Butter a 10-inch deep pie dish or a 1.5-liter (1.5 quart) baking dish.
  2. Open the can of cinnamon rolls and cut them into 1-inch pieces. Place the pieces evenly into the prepared pie dish.
  3. Drizzle the melted butter over the cinnamon roll pieces.
  4. Sprinkle half of the ground cinnamon and 1 tablespoon of brown sugar over the cinnamon rolls.
  5. Spoon half of the apple pie filling over the cinnamon roll pieces, chopping larger apple pieces as necessary and gently mixing.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining tablespoon of brown sugar over this layer.
  7. Spread the rest of the apple pie filling evenly over the top.
  8. Sprinkle the last tablespoon of brown sugar and the remaining ground cinnamon on top.
Baking
  1. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, monitoring until pie filling is bubbling and edges are golden brown.
  2. Remove from oven and slightly warm the icing that came with the cinnamon rolls, then drizzle over the baked dish.
Serving
  1. Serve warm directly from the dish, optionally topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Add a pinch of nutmeg or vanilla extract to the apple filling for extra flavor. You can also mix in chopped nuts or swap the apple filling for other fruit fillings.
