Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries Use fresh for the best flavor, frozen is an excellent alternative.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar Adjust to taste if you prefer a more tart compote.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Adds a refreshing zing.
  • 1 splash water Helps to create the simmering base.
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch Optional, for adjusting the thickness.

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by adding the blueberries, sugar, lemon juice, and water to a medium pot. Stir gently to combine.
  2. Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring often to prevent scorching. Allow it to boil for about 5 minutes until the berries start to burst.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes to thicken.
  4. If the compote isn’t thick enough, create a slurry by dissolving cornstarch in water, then stir it into the mixture and cook for another minute.
  5. Once cooled, you can serve it warm or transfer it to a sterilized jar for storage.

Notes

Store the leftover compote in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat gently when needed. Adding a dash of cinnamon or vanilla extract can enhance the flavor.
