Ingredients
Method
Patties
- Divide the beef mince into either four equal portions for single cheeseburgers or eight for double cheeseburgers.
- Gently roll each portion into a ball and then press them down into patties that are slightly larger than your buns.
- Aim for patties approximately 12 cm wide and 1 cm thick.
Prepare
- Lay out your burger essentials ready for assembly.
- Remember, don’t add salt to the ground beef until just before cooking.
Toast Buns
- Preheat your grill on high heat.
- Place the buns cut face up on a tray to toast for 3 to 5 minutes or until lightly golden.
- Set them aside to cool.
Dent Patty
- Sprinkle one side of the patties with half the salt and pepper.
- Flip the patties over and use your thumb to press a dent into the center of each one.
- Sprinkle the remaining salt and pepper over this side.
Cook
- Heat 1 tablespoon of canola oil in a large cast-iron skillet over high heat until very hot.
- Cook 2 to 4 patties in the pan, pressing them lightly for 1.5 minutes.
- Flip them over and immediately top with a slice of cheese; cook for another 1.5 minutes.
- Let the patties rest for 3 minutes after cooking.
Assemble
- Spread your sauce of choice on the bottom of the toasted bun.
- Layer with lettuce, add the tomato slices, carefully place the burger patties, followed by the gherkins and onion.
- Top it off with more sauce on the lid of the bun and press it all together.
Serve
- Devour your cheeseburgers immediately, perhaps pairing them with crispy French fries.
Notes
For an even better flavor, consider adding your favorite spices to the beef mixture. Don’t overhandle the meat to keep your patties tender. For variations, consider turkey burgers or veggie patties.
