Preparation
- Separate the ground beef into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, roughly the size of your buns.
- Generously season both sides of each patty with salt and pepper, making a small dent in the center of one side.
Cooking Onions
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil over high heat in a skillet or on the BBQ, add sliced onions, and cook until wilted and caramelized. Season with salt and pepper.
Cooking Patties
- In the same skillet, heat another tablespoon of oil to a smoking point and add the patties.
- Cook for two minutes until a deep golden crust forms, then carefully flip and cook for an additional minute.
- If using cheese, place on top, cover, and cook for one more minute to melt.
Assembling the Burgers
- Toast the cut side of the hamburger buns lightly.
- Spread condiments on the bottom of the buns, layer with lettuce, tomato, the patty, onions, pickles, and any extra condiments.
- Top with the lid of the bun and serve immediately.
Notes
Opt for ground beef with at least 20% fat content for optimal juiciness. Let cooked patties rest before assembling.
