Method

Preparation
  1. Separate the ground beef into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, roughly the size of your buns.
  2. Generously season both sides of each patty with salt and pepper, making a small dent in the center of one side.
Cooking Onions
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil over high heat in a skillet or on the BBQ, add sliced onions, and cook until wilted and caramelized. Season with salt and pepper.
Cooking Patties
  1. In the same skillet, heat another tablespoon of oil to a smoking point and add the patties.
  2. Cook for two minutes until a deep golden crust forms, then carefully flip and cook for an additional minute.
  3. If using cheese, place on top, cover, and cook for one more minute to melt.
Assembling the Burgers
  1. Toast the cut side of the hamburger buns lightly.
  2. Spread condiments on the bottom of the buns, layer with lettuce, tomato, the patty, onions, pickles, and any extra condiments.
  3. Top with the lid of the bun and serve immediately.

Notes

Opt for ground beef with at least 20% fat content for optimal juiciness. Let cooked patties rest before assembling.
