Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 pounds ground beef The heart of this dish, offering rich flavors and a hearty texture.
  • 2 teaspoons salt Essential for enhancing the meat’s natural taste.
  • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese (whole milk) Creamy and melty, this cheese makes for a delightful surprise.
  • 1 egg Acts as a binder, ensuring a tender texture.
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder Adds a sweet, aromatic flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning Blends herbs that introduce Italian flair.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Provides a perfect garlicky kick.
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper Rounds out the flavor profile.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef and salt.
  3. Cut the mozzarella cheese into 8 evenly sized cubes.
  4. Divide the seasoned meat mixture into 8 equal portions (around 4 ounces each).
  5. Make a well in the center of each meatball and insert a cube of mozzarella, pressing the meat around to seal the cheese inside.
  6. Place the formed meatballs seam-side up in a 9x13-inch baking dish or on a large cookie sheet.
  7. Bake for approximately 25 minutes, or until cooked through.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

Chill the meat mixture for firmer meatballs. Use lean ground beef to avoid greasiness. These freeze beautifully for up to 3 months.
