Ingredients
Method
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 500°F and place a pizza steel or stone inside to heat for 45 minutes.
- Generously flour a pizza peel and set it aside.
Cooking Sausage
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat the olive oil.
- Add the sweet Italian sausage, breaking it up as it cooks, and sauté until cooked through and crispy, about 10 to 12 minutes.
- Transfer the cooked sausage to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Caramelizing Onion
- In the same pan, reduce heat to medium and melt the butter.
- Add the diced onion, season with salt and pepper, and cook until softened, about 10 minutes.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and cook until golden brown and soft, about another 10 minutes, then transfer to a bowl to cool slightly.
Assembling the Pizza
- Flatten the pizza dough on a floured surface into a large disk with a thick 1-inch lip around the edges.
- Place the disk onto the prepared pizza peel, adjusting the shape as needed.
- Spread the pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a half-inch border for the crust.
- Sprinkle cheeses, sausage, and caramelized onions evenly over the sauce.
Adding Eggs and Baking
- Gently slide the pizza onto the preheated steel or stone.
- Create small wells and crack an egg into each well.
- Bake for about 8 to 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted and egg whites are cooked through.
Serving
- Allow the pizza to cool slightly before slicing it into generous pieces.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Dough can be store-bought for a quicker option. For creamier texture, use medium eggs. Substitute sausage if desired. Add vegetables for a nutritional boost.
